Artist Bio:

Kristi Welch is a self taught artist based in South Carolina whose work is rooted in emotion and quiet resilience. After experiencing childhood depression and social anxiety disorder, that became a late in life diagnosis of Bipolar...she found in art a form of medicine. Through childlike experimentation and a refined practice, Kristi creates art that offers brain tingling expression with a dose of inner self reflection. Her work explores emotional expressionism as an internal landscape snapshot, combining her color, emotion and sound synesthesia with the senses. Currently she is finding roots to bloom in the art world and embracing the courage it takes to share her inner world, outward.

Statement:

Art is my medicine. In my younger years, it was a protective place I could be fully myself when the world of emotion felt too heavy. My work is deeply intuitive and emotionally expressive, often shaped by themes of hope, belonging, and that desire for internal peace. I’m drawn to flowing textural movement, rich color palettes, and forms that feel like dreams or distant memories. Art is about claiming the messily beautiful and wondrously chaotic things inside of ourselves...and showing them Love. I want my work to be a light on mental health and the spark that can still be found in the dark. I believe we are always getting back up to be more colorful human beings... everyday.
